Fastrak to Yachtmaster Coastal
The Fastrak to Coastal Skipper course is an intensive sailing programme designed to develop confident and capable skippers able to undertake longer coastal and offshore passages. Combining practical sail training, advanced navigation theory and extensive time afloat, the course provides a structured progression route towards RYA Coastal Skipper standard within a highly practical training environment.
Ideal for sailors wanting to progress beyond Day Skipper level, the programme develops advanced seamanship, pilotage, passage planning and offshore navigation skills while building confidence operating in more demanding coastal and offshore conditions. Students undertake substantial sailing mileage aboard cruising yachts operating on the Solent, English Channel and surrounding offshore waters, gaining valuable experience in real-world tidal and navigational situations.
The course combines shorebased navigation training with practical skippering instruction, helping students develop both theoretical understanding and practical decision-making ability. Emphasis is placed on yacht handling, offshore seamanship, crew management, weather interpretation and safe passage planning.
Delivered by BOSS Sailing, an established RYA Recognised Training Centre based at Hamble Point Marina, the programme provides professional instruction, structured progression and immersive hands-on sailing experience designed to prepare students for advanced cruising, offshore passages and future Yachtmaster training.
