Parking at Hamble Point
Hamble Point marina will shortly be implementing parking charges. The first 2-hours will be free for dropping off or picking up students. There is a heavily discounted rate of £4 per day, for BOSS students leaving a car for the duration of their course or cruise.

What are the course timings?
Arrival: 08:45
Finish on final day: Around 16:00–16:30
Please note that yachts typically return to the marina from 15:00 on the final day for cleaning, debriefs, logbook signing and certificate administration.
What onboard accommodation do you offer?
- Accommodation is provided on board the yacht for all practical courses
- Cabins are allocated on arrival to best suit the crew makeup
- Single cabins cannot be guaranteed and are not charged as a premium
- You may be asked to share a cabin with someone of the same gender
- Sleeping arrangements are usually in the main saloon or fore cabin with single berths
Is there catering onboard?
Food is included in the course price, with vegetarian and vegan options available. There is however a surcharge of £20 for weekend courses & £35 for 5-day courses if gluten free or dairy free catering is required.
Regrettably, we are unable to cater for Halal, Kosher or FODMAP diets, due to the nature of the food we put onboard.
Although all food is provided onboard throughout the course, crews often opt for one evening meal ashore. The cost of meals ashore is not included.
Do you accommodate special dietary requirements
Please let us know of any dietary needs before your course.
Vegetarian and vegan options are available at no extra cost. There is however a surcharge of £20 for weekend courses & £35 for 5-day courses if gluten free or dairy free catering is required.

Do you provide wet weather gear hire?
Wet weather jackets and salopettes are available to hire for £7.50 per day.
Certificates and Photographs
Some RYA certificates require a passport-sized photograph.
If needed, you’ll be advised in advance, but please bring a printed photo (not digital).
If a photo is provided after the course, there will be a £10 charge – this is required in order to send your certificate by recorded delivery.
Mooring Fees
Mooring fees for practical courses are shared between students on board.
As a guide, for a 5-day course in high season, you should allow approximately £45 – £50 for the week and £20 – £25 for a 2-day weekend.

Cancellation & Travel Insurance
We strongly recommend taking out travel and cancellation insurance in case unforeseen circumstances prevent you from attending.
Please note the following:
- Course dates cannot be moved within 6 weeks of the start date
- if we can fill your place, we’ll happily rebook you
- If we cannot fill the place, it will be treated as a cancellation

A Note on Finding the Training Room
As you enter the marina, look for Saltmakers House, it’s the black building on the left. Our training rooms are on the ground floor.
Use the external ramp entrance, walk through to our reception office.



Parking at Hamble Point
A parking permit is required (we’ll provide this)
- This allows free parking but does not guarantee a space, especially in peak season
On arrival:
- Collect your permit from the instructor
- Park in the Pay & Display area
- Obtain a free 3-hour ticket
Checklist – Before You Leave
Before leaving for your course, make sure you have:
- Waterproof jacket and trousers
- Warm layers and soft bag
- Deck shoes or trainers
- Toiletries and medication
- Passport photo (if required)
And, of course…
- A sense of adventure!
