Yacht e No28 April 2024
Welcome to our quarterly newsletter. Despite the seemingly relentless & challenging weather, March & April have been busy months. We have run our First Youth course of the year. Battling rain and gale force winds all week, these amazing teens successfully gained their Competent Crew & Day Skipper qualifications. We were also delighted to welcome back members of the Oxford University sailing club, and were pleased to award 15 of their members the Day Skipper practical certificate. Our Fastrak students have been off self-skippering and are now in Falmouth as part of an 18 day navigation cruise - the Isles of Scilly are beckoning!
The classroom has been as busy as ever with Rosie working hard delivering Day Skipper & Coastal Skipper/ Yachtmaster theory courses. The latest Cruising Instructor course has just finished and we are pleased to announce that new instructors will be joining our highly experienced team. Our new Instructors have a wealth of experience between them and we look forward to working with them this season.
The summer is fast approaching so time to dust off the sailing kit and get planning! We have a full on season coming up, with all level of RYA courses, youth sailing, DofE expeditions, masterclasses and much more.
In this issue of Yacht e, we have included features on the International Certificate of Competence, our 5 day cross channel trips and the course in the spotlight is the Coastal Skipper practical. This is one of our favourite courses to run and really what cruising is all about! If you are already a qualified Day Skipper, read on to find how to gain the next level of RYA certification.
For those of you looking to charter in the Mediterranean this summer, do make sure you have your ICC in place in good time. On behalf of Sailing Holidays, we are running a number of ICC weekends in the coming months. In addition to the ICC, a number of charter companies are now requiring a VHF radio licence, so don't get caught out!
New for 2024 are our 5 day cross channel trips, for those looking to gain additional experience and miles outside of the RYA scheme. Weather permitting, we are popping over to Cherbourg or Alderney mid-week. Come and join us for your first cross channel experience. A great opportunity to log two 60NM passages, experience night sailing and watch keeping.
We look forward to welcoming you to BOSS this season and to helping you achieve your sailing goals. As always, our course co ordinator Nikki is on hand to discuss your training requirements. Please do pick up the phone or email us.
